Selection Rate In SSB For Different Entries

It is a well known fact that there are no boundations over Service Selection Boards to select any specific number of candidates. They have been given the full liberty to select as much number of candidates as they want, provided they all meet the requirements for the prestigious services.




Usually the Selection Rate is different for different Service Selection Boards and different type of entries but that doesn't mean the different Selection Boards and different entries have different criterion/parameters for evaluating candidates. The basic reason behind this variation in selection rates is the variation in the quality of the candidates for different type of entries. Yes, you read it correct! The quality of candidates is usually found to be different for different entries.

While there is no actual figure available, experts have estimated the average selection rate in Service Selection Board to be 12%. But due to certain factors this ratio can fluctuate up and down by about 5% without being compromised with the standard operating procedures for selection of candidates.

Here is a rough estimation (based on the views of experts) about the selection rate for few of the entries.

National Defence Academy & Technical Entry Scheme
This is considered to be the best entry as the quality of candidates coming for it is at its peak. The selection rate is around 15-20%.
Combined Defence Service
This is considered to be the best Armed Forces gateway for graduate aspirants. The selection rate used to be in this entry is around 15%.
SSC (Women) Non Technical
The selection for this entry is done through CDSE itself. It is fact that selection rate of women is higher in comparison of their male counterparts. Hence the average selection rate for this entry can be estimated upto 20%.
Technical Entries
The nominal roll for candidates appearing in technical entries is used to be very lengthy. With limited capacity to assess candidates, service selection boards have to reject maximum number of in the first stage itself. Also the candidates in this entry don't have much impressive standard. Candidates having no or unacceptable level of knowledge and passion about Armed Forces is one of the common reason for his/her rejection in this entry. The selection rate for technical entries can be fairly expected to be below 10%.

Relying on NCC special entry for confirming a seat in the prestigious academies can be one of the biggest mistake you can commit in your life. Yes you read it correct. A big mistake! 
National Cadet Corps entry has some of the poorest standard of candidates. This doesn't apply for every NCC cadet. During interrogation with many NCC cadets it has been found that their prime reason for joining this organization is to become eligible for the so called special entry. One should prepare for written exams rather then relying on such entries. The average selection rate for this entry is drastic and would not usually go above 5%. In case women candidates here, it can be as low as 2-3%.

Conclusion

From the above facts it can be easily concluded that nothing can be better than clearing a written exam and then going for assessment in Service Selection Boards. In that case you will be definitely selected if you have it in you!
