Under trainee Gentlemen Cadets (GCs) Demoted For Ragging Juniors

Indian military academies are generally known for rough training. Extreme methods are used to train cadets for the real time war like situation. But when these instances are leaked in media, it becomes a problem and ultimately the organisation has to suffer it. Similar thing happened recently when 16 Gentlemen Cadets from the prestigious Indian Military Academy, Dehradun were demoted for the act of ragging their juniors. This development emerged as one of its strictest disciplinary actions taken against the under trainee senior GCs of the spring 2016 batch.

This news was confirmed by a senior official of the academy. According to the sources, those 16 cadets from the spring 2016 batch have been "relegated" to the junior course as they were caught misusing their powers and were violating the academy's rules and discipline. It also means that their commissioning will be delayed by six months as the gentlemen cadets will pass out the academy in December this year. Earlier, they were supposed to be commissioned in June, 2016.

In defence terminology, the term "relegation" is generally used to describe "demotion". After this development in the academy, the atmosphere there is serious. The punishment is to give a strong message to the defaulters.

While a cadet in the final term, have claimed on the condition of anonymity that such type of punishments are not justified as it the tradition of this academy and also a way of training to inculcate certain skills and qualities in the junior cadets.
