This is largely a test to check candidate's common sense and ability to think practically in different situations.

Everyone in world come across different unforeseen situations in their day to day life. These situations are mostly uncertain in nature and demands to think logically and take appropriate actions in order to arrive at a solution which fits best to their personality and thinking pattern.

Life in armed forces is filled with similar unforeseen and uncertain situations which are tough and unavoidable in nature. An officer in armed forces has to face different constraints ranging from shortage of resources from environmental challenges. One can act on these situations only with a high state of mental alertness and determination. An officer is required to be logically clear and quick before taking any decision. He should be brave enough to bear stress.

Situation Reaction Test is a confirmatory test designed to explore candidate's subconscious level of mind in order to assess the required qualities essential for military leadership and combat roles.

Conduct:
In this test a number of situations are presented to you. Role of assessors is to find out how you would feel, think and act in these different situations. Total 30 minutes are given for 60 situations. To make you aware about the time the assessors will announce when half of the time and last 5 minutes will be left. Some of these situations can be asked by interviewing officers in personal interview or by president in board conference.

The central character in SRTs is said to be imaginary in nature, but in reality, it is none other than you only. Remember, your personality is being judged.

Tips:

  • Practice as much SRTs as you can. It will be better if you practice time bound SRT sets before going for your SSB attempt. You may download the solved SRT pdf file from the link given below.
  • Don't take the situations too personally. There are certain situations which becomes tough to respond when you take them personally.
  • Don't think much. Pen down your first thought. If you are not sure about your first thought then think again and answer but don't waste much time in this.
  • Don't show qualities by words, show by the actions you have taken in your responses.
  • Never leave any SRT blanked.
  • Always revert back to the original task after solving the given problem.
  • Few SRTs are always repeated intentionally. For same situations, responses are supposed to be same.
  • Few situations seem to be similar but they are not same. Hence, your responses may differ as per the case.
  • Respond as per your background and social environment.
  • Never contradict your actions.
