Direct Entry for NCC Girls in Indian Air Force

New year has not arrived yet and Indian Air Force has given gift to all the women candidates who are willing to join IAF as a pilot.

After a much awaited development, National Cadet Corps girls will now be able to join Indian Air Force as a Pilot. IAF has opened the doors for female NCC - "C" Certificate holders to appear in Air Force Selection Boards (AFSB) for selection without giving any written exam for that. As of now, there is no direct entry for female candidates to be Air Force pilots. They have to clear Air Force Common Test (AFCAT) to appear in AFSB.

Currently, the benefit of joining the Indian Air Force as Pilots without giving any exam is available to only male NCC "C" Certificate holders. This decision is said to be taken in the wake of increasing vacancies of Pilots in IAF.

Air Headquarters (located in New Delhi) has already cleared the required policy for the implementation of this decision. The policy is expected to come into effect from the next recruitment cycle of Indian Air Force.

This decision is going to a big advantage for all the female aspirants who are willing to join Armed Forces as an officers. Specially, at a time when the no. of vacancies for female cadets in army NCC direct entry have been decreased to 4.

Indian Air Force has already a large number of female pilots who fly all type of aircraft. Earlier, IAF had opened doors for female aspirants of Air Force to become pilots in Fighter Stream. As a result, 3 women pilots were commissioned into fighter stream this year. 

This direct entry is for those female candidates who have passed "C" Certificates exam of Air Wing of National Cadet Corps and meets other eligibility criteria such age and educational qualifications. The application process is same as other NCC direct entries. Eligible candidates are required to submit the application form in their respective NCC Squadrons which will be then forwarded to Directorate General, NCC.

Indian Air Force has currently more than 1500 women officers. And, the joining of women officers in IAF has rise consistently over the past three years.
