How India-US relations will be affected by Donald Trump's presidency?

Now when Donald Trump has been officially appointed for the POTUS (President of the United States) position, people are highly uncertain if this will have a negative impact on the existing thaw between India and US relations.

Here are some of the points which we can consider to draw a conclusion regarding the development in India-US relations after the election of Donald Trump as the POTUS.

Trump on Terrorism

Trump is said to be against growing Islamic Terrorism. Indirectly pointing out to Pakistan, he once declared to go down heavily against all those states who are promoting terrorism from their territory. He has also raised concern over nuclear capabilities of aggressive states likes Pakistan and North Korea. Trump's hostile gesture with Pakistan can help in growing India-US relations.

How Indian economy will be affected by Donald Trump's presidency?

He has confessed in front of the whole world that India is one of the most rapidly growing country. Experts say that he see India as a challenge and a matter of concern for US economy. Trump has also expressed his displeasure on massive outsourcing of work from America to India. India is a leader in software services the net export of which can be roughly estimated for more than $90 billion dollars. More than 60% of this figure is contributed by North America itself.

He can curb the legal immigration by scrapping H-1B visa. Scrapping of H-1B can have adverse effect on the entire Indian software Industry. This will also affect all the Indians working in US. (H-1B visa is a non-immigration visa which allows companies based in United States to hire talented professionals temporarily).

Trade is going to be a big factor in India-US relationship

Trump is a visionary. He is a successful businessman and a businessman knows the importance of collaboration and trade. Now, the question is how his outdated and conservative approach will change the global geopolitical trade scenario!

He hasn't given much emphasis to India in his foreign policy. Nor he has not significantly mentioned much about developing trade ties with India but US-India trade is potentially going to be affected during Trump's presidency. Any step taken by US to impose tariffs or quotas or to develop trade with China will affect Indian markets also. That's a matter of large concern for India.

Military

India can be side beneficiary of Trump's indifference in taking any signification military-ties development with the countries from East Asia, West Asia, Latin America and Europe.

In one of his speeches during his election campaign, he promised people of US to lower down the tax rates. He also said to increase military budget. In order to fulfill all these type of promises he would have to use government money. This could also result into the downfall of dollar which will be ultimately good for rupee.

Bilateral Relations

“I am a big fan of Hindu. I am a big fan of India. I'll be honest, I have great respect for India. It's tremendously successful. It is an amazing country. The Indian and Hindu community will have a true friend in the White House, that I can guarantee. After becoming President, I want to work like PM Narendra Modi.

These is what Trump has said on India during his pre-election campaign speechIt shows how he is connected with India. Let's hope it was not just a piece of speech.

In short we can easily say that he will be somewhat good for India.
