Ten incredible 'Padma Shri 2017' awardees you probably don't know about!

List of Padma Awards 2017 has been declared by the Indian Government.

Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian award. It is awarded every year to people for their exceptionable contribution in their field. Here are the names of  some incredible Indians who were awarded Padma Shri for making a difference in the lives of those who are around them.



These Padma Shri awardees have contributed to the society in many ways - from fighting with fire and rescuing people, farming in extensive drought like conditions, training people and preserving the heritage of an art-form.




1) Bhakti Yadav, Madya Pradesh  


She is a 91-year-old doctor from Indore. Popularly known as 'Doctor Dadi', she has treated many patients in her life. She has delivered 1000 of babies till now. She is also the first woman to hold an MBBS degree in Indore.


2) Shekhar Naik, Karnataka


He is the captain of the Indian Cricket Team for the blind. He is the best performing batsman so far. Having scored more than 32 centuries in a career span of more than 13 years, he has played in more than 63 matches across all formats.







3) Meenaakshi Amma: 


Also known as the 'Granny with a sword', she is the country's oldest woman Kalaripayattu exponent. She is 76 years old and lives in Kerala. She began her training of Martial Arts at the age of seven.








4) Bipin Ganatra: 

He is 59 years old fire fighter volunteer from West Bengal. He is the only fire fighting personnel who has been to almost every fire accident site in Kolkata in the last 40 years.
After losing his brother he has dedicated his life to help people caught in fire incidents.








5) Chintakindi Mallesham: 

He is the inventor of Laxmi ASU machine which weave Pochampalli Silk Sarees fastly. Chintakindi Mallesham is 44 year old inventor. He is a school dropout and created the machine to relieve his mother;s pain. Laxmi ASU machine is proven to be cost effective method to reduce the time and labour required to weave Pochampalli Silk Sarees. This machine has impacted lives of more than 60 percent weavers working in the region.




6) Daripalli Ramaiah: 


Popular as 'Tree Man', he is 68-year-old and has contributed to the society by planting over one crore of trees. He is a mission to plan more trees and bring back green cover. He always keep seeds in his pocket and plant them whenever he sees a barren spot.







7) Karimul Haque: 

Known as 'Ambulance Dada' in his region in West Bengal, he has converted his bike into an ambulance which offers services 24x7. He designed the Bike Ambulance after he lost his mother as he couldn't admit her in hospital due to non-availability of Ambulance.









8) Genabhai Dargabhai Patel: 

Popularly known as 'Anar Dada', he is a specially-abled farmer in Gujrat. His efforts led to his drought hit village to become the largest producer of Pomegranate in India.










9) Dr. Subroto Das, Gujarat: 


People call him 'Highway Messiah'. He has contributed a lot in making it possible in bringing medical relief to accident victims on national highways. He is the founder of Lifeline Foundation after he met with an accident. Lifeline foundation provides emergency medical services on the highway network spanning more than 4,000 kilometers in Maharashtra, Kerala, Rajasthan and West Bengal.





10) Girish Bharadwaj:



Popularly known as 'Sethu Bandhu' in Karnataka, he is a social worker who has built over 100 low-cost and eco friendly suspension bridges which connects different remote villages across India.
